Too Big of A Bite

“You gotta be really careful what you bite off.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
It’s a dangerous world.”
Ozzy Osbourne

Too Big of A Bite

We all have been guilty of biting off more than we can chew. In fact one of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs, “My Way” gives a great example of this concept with its lyrics:

Yes there were times I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

If you feel burdened lately, ask yourself why you told your office-mate, friend or significant other, “Yes, I’ll do that. Don’t worry”. Even when you can’t find time to change your bathroom’s light-bulb. You are probably biting off more than you can chew and as Sinatra said, “better realize it and spit it out.”

Don’t let stress control you. You can gauge it and keep it under tight control. Here are a few signs that you are biting off too much:

  • Lack of time for personal projects
  • Feeling tired all daylong
  • Not sleeping
  • Eating disorders
  • Bad temper
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Memory  problems

Of course, take these signs with a grain of salt. If you are very stressed, consult a professional. Don’t let these hard-to-catch stressors catch you off-guard.

Sometimes we must put ourselves first before others in our life. Don’t look at it as being selfish, look at it as being productive. Stand tall and don’t bite off too big of a bite.
