Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart – July 24, 1897 to July 2, 1937

Today would have been the 118th birthday of Amelia Earhart. She was an American aviation pioneer and author.

Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.  She received the U.S.Distinguished Flying Cross for this record.

She set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.

One of the books she wrote was For the Fun of It, in 1932 which was a memoir of her flying experiences and an essay on women in aviation. I was lucky enough to find this book in my library. It’s interesting to read about Amelia in her own words.

Amelia helped pave the way for strong, intelligent woman wanting to pursue what they loved, no matter what anyone thought.

If I had a time machine, Amelia is someone I wish I could sit down with and interview to find out more about what she thought of the world and her experiences. In my opinion, she was way ahead of her time. My hats off to Amelia Earhart. Thank you Amelia.

Too Big of A Bite

“You gotta be really careful what you bite off.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
It’s a dangerous world.”
Ozzy Osbourne

Too Big of A Bite

We all have been guilty of biting off more than we can chew. In fact one of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs, “My Way” gives a great example of this concept with its lyrics:

Yes there were times I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

If you feel burdened lately, ask yourself why you told your office-mate, friend or significant other, “Yes, I’ll do that. Don’t worry”. Even when you can’t find time to change your bathroom’s light-bulb. You are probably biting off more than you can chew and as Sinatra said, “better realize it and spit it out.”

Don’t let stress control you. You can gauge it and keep it under tight control. Here are a few signs that you are biting off too much:

  • Lack of time for personal projects
  • Feeling tired all daylong
  • Not sleeping
  • Eating disorders
  • Bad temper
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Memory  problems

Of course, take these signs with a grain of salt. If you are very stressed, consult a professional. Don’t let these hard-to-catch stressors catch you off-guard.

Sometimes we must put ourselves first before others in our life. Don’t look at it as being selfish, look at it as being productive. Stand tall and don’t bite off too big of a bite.

Pug Patty  Three Pugs Makes a Pool

Redondo beach has a population of approximately 66.7K people. That population consists of people from a wide diversity of social classes. From young to old, from the very rich to the very destitute. Within this diversity there’s one common bond that ties all of us Redondoites together. That common bond is our love of canines.

When you walk or ride along the Esplanade, you’ll encounter all kinds of dogs and dog owners. From the pampered pooch to the homely hound. All the dog owners appear to be happy and their happiness is reflected in their dogs.

This weekend I saw a man riding his bike pulling a toddler trailer. I’ve seen this guy cruising the Esplanade before, but I hadn’t paid much notice to what he was trailering. As I approached the man from behind, I noticed there were not toddlers in the trailer but three pug dogs. Just had to share this particular pooch sighting with my fellow bloggers.

This man and his three pugs in tow give the true meaning of rollin with my homie.
