This is Not Pretty

Let’s face it, I’m not exactly a fashionista. There was a time in my life when I was decked out daily in the current fashions. I’d peruse Vogue magazine for fabulous dresses, then sew my own creations.

I haven’t picked up an issue of Vogue in years. Mostly because I’m retired and not concerned about fashion.

The other day I found myself skimming through the April issue of Vogue. There were a few interesting articles, but then I began to notice how utterly ugly some of the so called “fashionable dresses” looked.

Come on Vogue, you can’t be serious with this model in this photo? In my opinion, this is not pretty.

Jog Your Memory

Memory… is the diary that we all carry about with us.”
Oscar Wilde

Jog Your Memory

Anyone who has gone without exercising for a while knows how it can fog up your brain. You may not even realize that your memory loss is due to lack of exercise. Most people chalk it up to senility.

A memory is made up of millions of neurons which your brain builds to make a connection so that you can have memories. As you age, your brain continues to develop neurons and build new connections. Research has proven that any type of cardiovascular activity when done for 20 minutes or more, three times per week will improve your memory.

You may ask yourself, how is this possible? Well, when you are exercising you are obviously raising your heart rate. The raised heart rate gets blood flowing to your brain. This blood flow enlarges the part of the brain which is responsible for brain memory. It also increases the secretion of a brain protein necessary for your long-term memory.

The brain may be an organ, but it works like a muscle and it’s one of the most important organs in your body. You can let it atrophy by sitting around all day. Or you can choose to get up and jog your memory.

Sailing, surfing and snorkeling are just a few of the ocean activities people enjoy in Redondo Beach.

Boating and sailing is another popular activity. One of the boats you will see quite often in Redondo Beach waters is the Body Glove boat.

Body Glove is a surf, skateboard and water sports brand started in Redondo Beach. Founded in 1953 by twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell, the brothers are credited for inventing the first practical wetsuit in the early 1950s in the back of their Redondo Beach surf shop, Dive N’ Surf.

From a small back yard of a surf shop, two passionate divers went on to become Redondo’s most prominent business, Body Glove.
