Mean Green Juicing Machine

“Our task must be to free ourselves…
by widening our circle of compassion to
embrace all living creatures and the
whole of nature and its beauty.”
Albert Einstein

Mean Green

I’ve been juicing the last few days. I love how great I feel when I juice my fruits and vegetable. You get mega doses of vitamins when you juice, so that’s why I have more energy.

Here’s my daily morning juice drink I make to kick-start my day:

My Mean Green Juicing Machine

Ingredients
1 Cucumber
2 Green Apples
2 Cups Chopped Kale
1 Stalk Celery
1 Lemon

Directions
Wash all produce well
Juice and pour over ice

You can add fresh ground pepper, garlic powder, lemon pepper seasoning to taste, and a sprig of fennel greens. But I prefer to juice just the ingredients listed for my mean green juicing machine.

Bon Appetit

Fresh is Best

After eating that delicious pastrami sandwich the other day, I decided I needed a reboot. Not for my computer, but for my body. When I reboot I cleanse my body by juicing most of my meals each day. It’s not only refreshing but I always feel much healthier.

A few years ago I saw the movie, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on Netflix. After watching this inspiring movie, I decided to try juicing. As in the movie, I lost weight and felt great. A few of my health problems even disappeared, quite to my doctors amazement.

Today I juiced a portion of a big watermelon that I picked up at the market. I broke up the melon into big chunks, added about a half a cup of water and juiced until it was mixed. Then I poured it over ice and drank the most refreshing sweet drink I’ve had all week.

If you also are trying to eat healthier, just remember when shopping for groceries that fresh is best.

Gold Standard of Sandwiches

“Langer’s serves the best pastrami sandwich in America.”

Gold Standard of Sandwiches

Langer’s Hot Pastrami Sandwich

My husband took me to an institution today. No, he didn’t take me to a mental institution. Although he has threatened to drop me off at Camarillo State Mental Hospital a few times.

The institution I’m referring to is Langer’s Delicatessen in downtown Los Angeles. Langer’s Delicatessen has been serving deli food for more than 66 years.

We recently saw an episode of Cooking Channel about great delicatessen’s in America and Langer’s was listed as a must visit. Famous for their hot pastrami on crispy-crust hot rye bread. That’s exactly what I ordered, and it was off the hook!

My husband ordered the hot corned beef on the crispy-crust hot rye bread. He said it was the best deli food he’s ever eaten. He’s eaten at quite a few delis, even the famous Katz’s delicatessen in New York City. The deli where Harry and Sally have their famous orgasm scene. In fact, a few years back the late great Nora Ephron participated in a pastrami taste-off comparing the two delis. She found Langer’s was the better sandwich.

I’d have to agree with Nora Ephron that Langer’s is for all intents and purposes the gold standard of sandwiches.

Yummy Banana Bread

Banana Bread

I enjoy cooking, but I love baking. There’s a blog that I follow, Stovetop Story that has some awesome recipes. I know because I have cooked and baked some of the recipes posted on this wonderful blog.

Today I made Stovetop’s banana bread. The only problem with making this delicious bread is it did not last 24 hours in our home.

If you like to bake and you enjoy fast and easy recipes, check-out this recipe at the Stovetop Story for some yummy banana bread.
